What is your body telling you?

Friedrich Nietzche famously stated, “There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophies.”

If there is one thing I have learnt from Ayurveda and Ashtanga Yoga it is that body+mind+spirit is all connected. Meaning, as the mind affects the cells in your body, what manifests in the body also affects your state of mind.

You know those sensations, injuries or even just weak points of your physical body, can it be our subconscious trying to send us a message about life? Can it be life’s magical way of either whispering or firmly telling us to pay attention?

I like to think so!

Of course we should not leave treating the physical body as just that, a physical body, but as we do perhaps we should also look at the current pain or injury on a deeper level. Admittedly, looking deeper isn’t as easy as just analysing the physicality of our aches. But that does not mean it should not be done.

So what is your body really telling you?

This is what I found

Neck and Head

  • Ask yourself: What is a headache in my life? Where am I lacking confidence?

 Shoulders

  • Ask yourself: Where do I need to accept responsibility in my life?

Upper Back/Ribs

  • Ask yourself: What (or who) is holding me back?

Lower Back

  • Ask yourself: What burden(s) am I carrying around that I’ve repressed or not yet dealt with?

Hamstring

  • Ask yourself: Where am I hamstrung or limited in my ability to be effective in life?

Hips

  • Ask yourself: Where in my life am I inflexible?’
